Wings Of War Flies to Victory with Mill Reef Stakes Win

It’s another exciting Group 2 success for the Beechdown Stables team, as Wings of War lived up to his lofty reputation after landing a victory, with a Group 2 win in the Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury on Saturday (18th September). With Adam Kirby onboard, Wings Of War sat in midfield before stepping up to challenge the front-running Hierarchy and go on to lead inside the final furlong, winning by a head.

We are even more delighted for connections as this victory marks the biggest win in Britain for his owner, Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the man behind the growth of top-quality racing in Bahrain.

Following the footsteps of former stable star, Harry Angel, who was named champion sprinter the season following his Newbury success back in 2016, we were so thrilled to see Wings Of War put in such a classy performance that could see him go on to be a legitimate contender for top level sprinting titles.

Talking to the Racing Post, Clive comments: “He has always given me a great deal of confidence that he’s a proper horse. Winning the Flying Childers last week [with Caturra] and the Mill Reef this week has been wonderful. I’m delighted for connections, and we’ve got a proper horse to look forward to in the six-furlong division next year.

"Mentally, there’s a bit more improvement in him. He was a little bit on edge when he got here, but as the day went on, he got more and more at ease with himself and put in a performance to be proud of. He was good and was ready for this test. I just hope and pray he turns out as good as our last winner of this race. That would be nice.”
