Tropical Heat continued her sparkling form with another impressive display on Tuesday (12th August), securing a competitive Handicap victory at Haydock to make it two wins from her last two starts. Under a determined ride from Rossa Ryan, the progressive three-year-old confirmed herself a filly that’s firmly on the rise.
Carrying a 5lb penalty for her authoritative Sandown success, she was well-backed in the market – confidence that proved well placed. Settled in midfield, she initially had plenty to do, with little daylight to work with along the far-side rail. Rossa did well to keep her balanced and travelling patiently, despite having no room to gallop into for much of the straight. Four furlongs from home, she still found herself short of room, but once in the clear she made steady, purposeful headway and quickened away smartly. Hitting the front in closing stages, she battled on resolutely to hold off her rivals at the line to win by a length.
Since stepping up to 7f, she has looked a noticeably improved performer. This latest display underlined her blend of tactical speed and fighting spirit – qualities that mark her out as a talented sprinter with real promise. A return to the winner’s enclosure was very well deserved after such a committed performance, and we are delighted for her owner, Jeff Smith, as attention now turns to her next assignment.
