It was a welcome success for Supreme Diamond at Bath on Sunday (14th September) as she got off the mark on the fourth time of asking, landing her maiden victory in a determined style.
The two-year-old has outlined her debut season so far as one of progress, showing consistent improvement with each run. This latest performance was a fine demonstration of her grit and perseverance, while adding further valuable experience to her development – both of which we are delighted to see.
With Joe Leavy at the helm, the filly was away smartly from the stalls and quick to secure a prominent position in the five-furlong contest on heavy ground. Travelling well down the centre of the track, she moved to the front over two furlongs out and took on a head-to-head challenge. Despite hanging left in closing stages, she knuckled down well to hold off her rival, keeping on gamely to score by half a length.
This victory follows a short break from her last performance in June and the drop back in trip, which appeared to suit. While she may not want conditions to be so testing in the future, this was nonetheless a deserved breakthrough for a filly who has been showing steady growth throughout the season.
A very well done to her owning connections – Angelica Spence, Alan Spence and Ify Madueke – for this maiden success. We are delighted to see her potential rewarded with this first milestone and we look forward to seeing her come on even more from this as she matures.
