The winning momentum at Beechdown Stables showed no signs of slowing, as the team saddled a fantastic double on Saturday. Headlined by smart performances from Fearnot and Addison Grey, our flank of three-year-olds continue to shape up as an exciting group for the second half of the season.

The first leg of the double came courtesy of Fearnot, who delivered an eye-catching victory in the 1m Betfred Handicap under a supremely confident ride from David Probert. A course and distance winner in May, the progressive colt had gone up 5lb after finishing a close third to Arabian Story in the Britannia at Royal Ascot in June, but rather pleasingly came out of this race well and returned to the track as a stronger looking article.

Drawn wide and slow to get going, the colt overcame a potentially costly start before slicing through from the rear as a gap opened-up on the stand-side rail. Quickening with an impressive turn of foot inside the final furlong, he won by half a length and confirmed the promise he’s long shown. A great result for his owner, Jason Goddard, as he flashes group potential.

The double was then sealed in emphatic fashion by Addison Grey in the Novice Stakes at Salisbury, who bounced back to form with a tremendous 17-length demolition in his latest start. Ridden once again by Saffie Osborne, who rode her second winner for us this week, the colt showed a clear return to the level of ability seen on debut, when he scored impressively back in November.

Always prominent, he briefly lost momentum over the six furlongs when stumbling over a path around the halfway marker, but quickly recovered and was shaken up to lead over two furlongs from home. Despite carrying a penalty, he made exceptionally light work of this with a powerful performance. A fantastic result for the owning connections at Opulence Thoroughbreds. More challenging assignments clearly lie ahead for this colt.
