Silver Sovereign Flies Home at Haydock

After a promising debut at Salisbury, Silver Sovereign was quick to build on her first experience with an impressive winning performance at Haydock on Friday (7^th August), storming home in the closing stages to take the Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

Racing over six furlongs on debut, she showed a willing attitude, but the step up to seven furlongs this time certainly proved favourable. She travelled strongly throughout and produced a late surge, showing plenty of pace to get the better of the favourite in the closing strides.

Drawn eight of nine runners meant a wide drawn, so Hector Crouch settled her on the outside, but she was never far from contention and was always travelling well. Pushed along as they approached two furlongs from home, it looked as though she might have to settle for a place, with the front runner still having plenty in hand. However, she responded gamely when asked, picking up impressively to show a remarkable turn of foot inside the final furlong to win by half a length. 

This was a really pleasing performance from this progressive filly, who will certainly develop further from this experience. With only two runs under her belt, there is plenty more to look forward to, and we will continue to nurture her potential both at home and on the track as we consider her future entries.
