After a winning debut as a two-year-old first time out a year ago, and a very trying performance that followed at Royal Ascot last summer, Scholarship is one who has always held great promise. Last October we made the decision to geld him, which we are pleased to say has refocused his training which he proved very nicely with this successful return to the track – now, as a three-year-old – on Friday (21st April).
Entered over 7f in the Dubai Duty Free Handicap at Newbury, under the steer of Tom Marquand, Scholarship battled to the line to fend of his contender and finished in front by a neck. As a big and powerful horse, it was good to see him find a nice rhythm where he quietly gathered pace behind the front runner, the Hannon trained Hectic. With the ground a little concerning on the day, we were glad to see this unphased him and played into our favour as he quickened for home with 300 yards to go. We look forward to this putting him in good stead going forward with a potential entry for Royal Ascot in June.
