It was a very pleasing day of racing on Saturday (16th August), with winners recorded on both sides of the country at Newmarket and Bath.
First up was Addison Grey, who produced a determined performance over 6f in the Grey Horse Handicap over Newmarket’s July course. Breaking smartly from stall seven, he secured an ideal position up the centre of the track and travelled prominently into closing stages. Showing plenty of grit, he pressed the leader before battling back strongly and moved into contention on the near side to seize the advantage in the final strides.
This success built on his close third in the Racing League on his handicap debut last time out, and he was given an assured ride from Jack Nicholls, whose valuable 7lb claim helped secure victory by three-quarters of a length. The result marks the colt’s third win of the season, underlining his consistency this year and another proud moment for his connections at Opulence Thoroughbreds. Our next target is set for the Ayr Gold Cup, which takes place in a month’s time.

Over at Bath, it was the turn of an exciting newcomer as Justcallmesergio made the perfect start to his career with a debut win in the two-year-old Maiden. Ridden with confidence by Rob Hornby, the colt was quickly into stride and travelled prominently throughout. Taking the lead inside the final furlong, he was briefly nudged along before stretching clear to win impressively by 2¼ lengths.
A patient approach has been taken with this colt, and the wait proved worthwhile as he delivered a smart first performance on the track. His pedigree and the manner of his success suggest there is more to come, and he should only improve with experience. He also looks likely to appreciate further in time.
This was an encouraging start for his connections, The Star Wishers, who now look ahead to what should be an exciting campaign.
