Mum’s Angel made the perfect start to life in handicap company when landing the mile contest at Salisbury on Friday (29th August).

The three-year-old gelding, owned by Ciara Carty and partnered by Finley Marsh, stepped up to run over a mile for the first time and we were thrilled to see the longer distance agree with him. Travelling smoothly in midfield, he looked like he had to make up a lot of running but as closing stages approached, he dug deep and made his move inside the final furlong. Staying on strongly under pressure, and despite suffering interference from the front runner, he forced a photo finish on his opponent as they crossed the line.

Initially placed second, a stewards’ enquiry found he had been impeded in the final strides, and the result was amended in his favour, handing him a deserved debut success. It was a performance full of promise, showing both tenacity and finishing strength, and connections will be encouraged that there could be further progress to come at this distance.
