James’s Delight Lands Sprint Success at York

Storming to victory in a head-turning fashion, James’s Delight put on a spectacular showcase at York on Saturday (15th June), as he outperformed the field of 16 rivals with a two and a quarter length lead in the six-furlong Sprint Handicap.

With a confident Ryan Moore in the saddle, the three-year-old looked outpaced as he was pushed along from halfway, but absolutely came alive when asked for more with two from home. Thundering towards the line with a late surge, he made up ground in emphatic style; racing from last to first position and stealing the advantage inside the final furlong. Defying top weight here, he is on a mark of 102 and continues to demonstrate himself as a fast-improving, talented and consistent individual with a natural aptitude for sprinting. This concludes his third handicap win this season for his owners, Paul and Clare Rooney, and is by far his best effort to date.

Whilst he holds an entry in this week’s Wokingham at Royal Ascot, drier conditions will probably aim us for the Prix Kistena Listed race in Deauville. This was a tried and tested route with Harry Three, who completed the York-Deauville double two years ago for us - also with Ryan Moore in the saddle.
