The progressive three-year-old Horwich maintained his unbeaten record with a commanding display at Wolverhampton on Tuesday (27th January), recording a decisive five-length victory on just his second career start.
Having made a winning debut over the same course and distance in December, the colt returned to action carrying a 5lb penalty, but any concerns were quickly put to rest. With Rob Hornby back on board, the pair broke smartly and took up a prominent position from the outset, travelling smoothly in front with a clear benefit from his previous experience.
Turning for home, and when asked to lengthen, he quickened readily and drew clear in an authoritative fashion, with the manner of this success demonstrating his willingness and notably positive attitude to racing, as well as an improving physical strength, which we are pleased to see develop with each run.
This was a really pleasing result for his owner and breeder, David Armstrong, and a credit to the team at home. Horwich has made a compelling start to his three-year-old campaign, and we look forward mapping out next steps with confidence, with further opportunities on the all-weather to consider before turning out attention to the turf, as the season gathers momentum.
