We were very pleased to see Horwich get off the mark at the first time of asking on Monday (15th December), when the two-year-old produced a taking debut success on the all-weather at Wolverhampton.
Sent over seven furlongs with a very positive ride from Rob Hornby, the gelding was quickly into stride and soon took up a prominent position just behind the leaders. Travelling comfortably, he took a little while to settle but was smoothly brought into contention turning for home and, despite showing signs of greenness, produced a decisive late run surge on the outside in the final furlong to finish clear by half a length.
This was a promising introduction for the newcomer and further success for his owner and breeder, David Armstrong. Horwich is a half-brother to Aspull who also won first time out at Salisbury this summer and is a promising individual as well.
We can look forward with optimism as Horwich continues to strengthen and learn, and we build on this initial experience.
