Fast Track Harry made an exciting return to action on Saturday with a commanding win in the six-furlong Novice Stakes at Doncaster (17th May). The promising three-year-old, a homebred owned by Jeff Smith, continued to build on his bright start to racing and once again looked every inch a sprinter with serious potential.
Ridden by Finley Marsh, the pair travelled smoothly throughout and always remained in touch with the leaders. When asked to challenge, Marsh switched him wide to the stands’ side, and despite drifting right in the closing stages maintained his momentum. Making eye-catching headway, he hit the front over a furlong out before surging clear to win by an impressive 2¾ lengths.
After scoring on debut at Newbury last year and finishing midfield in Listed company over the same trip (on soft ground), the son of Harry Angel returned from a short break and wind operation with real purpose. Despite carrying a penalty and facing a competitive field, he showed maturity and sharpness on the quicker ground to finish the task in style.
With two wins from three starts and this strong seasonal reappearance, this colt is certainly heading in the right direction. We look forwards to exploring higher targets in mind with his connections, as his three-year-old campaign unfolds.
