Flying the flag for the fillies this week, Evie Ross announced herself in fine style at Chepstow on Tuesday (19th August), landing her maiden success on her second attempt, edging out her rivals with a comfortable three-length lead over five furlongs. With Hector Crouch back in the saddle, who has been central to this week’s success so far, the two-year-old showed marked progress from her debut and delivered a performance full of promise.
Breaking sharply from the stalls, the two-year-old was soon into stride and quick to take up the running. Unlike her debut at Newbury two weeks prior, where she ran greenly over seven furlongs, the benefit of her experience was put to good use as she travelled well with her mind fully on the job. Once asked to quicken, she stretched clear in the final furlong, drifting slightly but always in control to secure a decisive win.
With a smart pedigree as a half-sister to a Group 3 winner, she holds plenty of potential to look forwards to. Congratulations to her connections, Stephen Barrow and Simon Hope, on this exciting first win with her.
