Diligent Harry’s Lands Listed Stakes at Lingfield

It was a tremendous result at Lingfield on Saturday (31^st January), as stable star Diligent Harry relinquished none of his Listed-winning form, returning to the track from his winter break to land the feature race in an exciting fashion with a dead-heat in a photo-finish.

Under a fantastic ride from Rossa Ryan, who knows the horse extremely well, the pair were quick from the stalls and soon took up a comfortable front-running position. Turning for home, they began to pull clear, but just as victory looked assured a late challenge emerged in the shape of Completely Random, who made them work all the way to the line. The result was awarded to both horses, but it proved a thrilling showcase of just how tough and tenacious this horse is when sprinting.

For any that are well-acquainted with this horse will know that he ranks among our top performers on the all-weather. In 2024, he enjoyed back-to-back Listed successes on the surface before producing an excellent display overseas at Meydan during Dubai’s renowned racing carnival in March. He rounded off last season in style with a brilliant Group 3 victory at Newcastle, marking his first success at that level.

The longevity of a racehorse’s career always presents a question mark for any trainer, but for this gelding to show such enthusiasm, heart and love for racing as a now eight-year-old – flying the flag for the older members of our string – makes achievements likes this all the more rewarding.
