We were absolutely delighted to see Conscript follow up his debut victory at Ffos Las with another confident success at Kempton on Wednesday (22nd October), making it two wins from two starts for this likeable three-year-old. Ridden by Hector Crouch and owned by the ever-supportive Kennet Valley Syndicate, the gelding showed an appetite to be back racing in what was a very pleasing performance.

After sustaining an injury from his maiden win back in July, where he was badly struck into during the race, his return to the course has been a patient one. His performance here was a true testament to the care and effort that’s gone into getting him fully back on track. Stepping up a furlong, he proved fighting fit in both strength and stamina, leading the field from start to finish before showcasing a comfortable winning margin of two lengths.

Very quickly into stride, he soon found himself in a lovely rhythm on the rail and set a decent pace. As they passed halfway, he was always travelling well and when Hector asked him to quicken two furlongs out, he stretched out impressively and stayed on strongly past the line.

This was a pleasing back-to-back victory for this horse, particularly after his enforced break, and it’s great to see him confirm the promise he showed earlier in the season. He’s shaping up to be a very useful type, and we look forward to seeing him continue to progress from here.
