It was a successful day’s racing at Salisbury on Saturday, with two standout performances marking a memorable fixture. A Bit of Spirit made it two wins from two starts, while Aspull impressed on his career debut with a determined victory.

First up was A Bit of Spirit, who followed up his debut success at Newbury — a form now boosted by the placed horses — with another polished effort. Carrying a penalty, he enjoyed a smooth run and didn’t need to improve dramatically to remain unbeaten. Bred to stay a mile, his next outing should offer further insight into his potential. This was another eye-catching display from a promising young horse. Credit goes to jockey Hector Crouch for another assured ride, and to owners Paul and Clare Rooney, who have every reason to be excited about what's to come.

Hot on his heels came Aspull, a three-year-old making his first appearance on the track. Also partnered by Hector Crouch, he showed great determination and a strong attitude for racing, finishing powerfully in the closing stages. His debut win was made all the more special as a homebred for owner David Armstrong. With such a professional first effort, there's plenty to look forward to as he progresses.
