A Group 3 Sprint Success from Coppull

It was a tremendous day of racing on Friday (1st May) as Coppull put in an almighty display at Ascot, to land the Commonwealth Cup Trial Stakes (Group 3) by a neck on his seasonal reappearance.

With Rossa Ryan in the saddle, he was drawn wide but was quick away from the stalls and established a prominent position tracking early leaders. Always travelling well, he began to creep into contention as they hit the two-furlong pole, but he held on with a remarkable turn of foot, quickening not once but twice in a striking finish, to outrank his rivals in the closing stages.

Now returning as a three-year-old, we have been delighted with the way he has strengthened and matured over the winter following a highly promising juvenile campaign last season. He looks a much more powerful individual on his return, and this performance strongly suggests there is plenty more to come.

Plans will now begin to centre around the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and some of summer’s finest sprint targets for this exciting colt. A huge congratulations to his owners, David and Sophie Armstrong.
