Another Newmarket triumph was followed in quick succession for the Beechdown team, as we returned to the track on Saturday (2nd October) with our precocious two-year-old colt, Ghostwriter, who finished in front with over a length in hand in the Group 2 Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes. This was a very exciting performance that marked his third win from three career starts and was an exceptional showcase of his rising talent to successfully conquer this calibre of thoroughbreds.
Stepping up in trip from his previous seven furlongs, this was his first attempt over a mile. To obtain victory so convincingly, he proved he is both capable and well suited to racing over this distance, and his pedigree suggests the possibility that he could even go further. Travelling beautifully under Richard Kingscote, the race held strong pace but with plenty in the tank he made headway and was last off the bridle as he quickened smartly for home. The closing stages saw an exciting finish as he challenged front runners, but none could prevail as he showed strength and speed over the line.
This is a very promising horse that continues to impress us, and we couldn’t be more pleased with this result for his owner, Jeff Smith. He has progressed remarkably from each performance so far this season, and the fact he competed at this Group 2 level and remains unbeaten shows great potential. We look forward to how next steps will unfold with some very anticipated entries next year ahead of us.
