A Goodwood Handicap Win for Flash Harry

Returning to Goodwood for a repeat victory on last year’s Handicap success in the same race, we were delighted to see Flash Harry back in the winner’s enclosure after a very confident performance over the six furlongs.

With Rossa Ryan in the saddle, the pair dropped in behind early leaders as the field split into two groups racing down the course. Within the main body of runners on the far side he appeared to have a challenge in front of him, but closing stages saw him produce a smart turn of foot when a gap opened up, which got him to the line in remarkable fashion and a comfortable length in hand.

This was a really rewarding result for this four-year-old who has endured some tough handicap contests this season. It’s especially pleasing to see him with his head back in front on softer ground after the recent rainstorms we’ve had. A very well done to his owners from the Deaville Daze Partnership.

Looking ahead, we hope this success will put him in a strong position now for the Ayr Gold Cup. He will carry a 5lb penalty for this win but he will head there in great form with a realistic chance. This time of year appears to bring out the best in him, and being a year older he has matured both physically and mentally, so we look forward to seeing him take this next step on 19^th September.
